NORWALK, CT (WFSB) - A Norwalk company has created a new bed that does the work of two caregivers.
The day Michael Tierinni had to put his mother into a nursing home, was the day he vowed to get her back home. "I was determined to get her out one way or the other, it just made life easier having her at home," said Tierinni.
The day came five years later when the Tierinnis were chosen to test out a new bed, designed to help those with disabilities.
It's called the AgileLife bed, which allows a person to have a spouse or family member, with minimal assistance, move a person in and out of bed.
"It's basically a one person job now," said Tierinni. The creators of the AgileLife bed said they saw a need for change from today's standard of care, which is the Hoyer lift system.
"Basically, you'd have to pull on her with one of the harness belts, and a lot of times we'd end up getting sore and hurt," Tierinni said.
Now with the AgileLife, he said it takes seconds to get his mother in and out of bed.. All with the push of a button.
The makers of the AgileLife bed are still looking for participants to take part in their trial.
